LUXURY ITALIAN DESTINATION WEDDINGS: PLAN YOUR DESTINATION WEDDING IN ITALY

Do you fantasize of a romantic, dream destination wedding? If so, Italy is the perfect backdrop for your celebration of love. There are so many beautiful mansions, antiquated castles, fashionable 5-star hotels with premium service and luxurious B&Bs dotting the countryside.

The first thing you need to decide is how big your wedding party is going to be and what kind of atmosphere are you looking for in a venue. You also need to keep a general budget in mind since prices vary according to different seasons and services that they provide.

Italy is a country with so much to offer. But you will have to decide which region you want to have your affair in and how much of the country you expect to see during your trip. Some people want to focus on staying close to the venue where the wedding took place. Others may want a more travel/touristy oriented Italian destination wedding.

The ideal time to plan an Italian destination wedding is between April and June or September and October. At this time the weather is beautiful and there are fewer crowds. Once you decide on the date and the size of your party you can begin to dream of your perfect location and actual romantic wedding venue for the ceremony and reception.

There are literally hundreds of magnificent settings for you to choose from and it depends on whether you desire to marry in a church ceremony or an outdoor garden type ceremony etc. One ideal choice that combines old world charm and 21st century comfort is the Castello di Casole in Tuscany. It has an onsite restored church that can fit up to 30 people and its gorgeous courtyard is the perfect spot for the romantic wedding pictures of your dreams. Situated on a hilltop, up to 200 guests will enjoy the spectacular view as they celebrate with you among the vineyards.  The estate houses three onsite restaurants and has 41 suites for your guests’ ultimate comfort and culinary delight..

"Italy, and the spring and first love all together should suffice to make the gloomiest person happy.”

Bertrand Russell

If your wedding party is smaller or you prefer a more intimate experience, there are villas such as the VILLA SAN CRISPOLTO known for its upscale wedding experiences. This lakeview villa is also equipped with its own chapel and can house up to 32 sleeping guests in 13 rooms with spectacular views of the lake and a can accommodate a reception for up to 70 people.

The grounds are perfect for relaxing after a busy day of touring and there is a swimming pool and beautiful rich gardens with native plants including an olive grove and ancient century old trees. Passignano sul Lago is a short 5 minute drive and has shops and restaurants. It is also conveniently situated for easy driving distances from the towns in Tuscany and Umbria such as Cortona, Montepulciano, Siena and Florence, Perugia and Assisi.

These are just a few examples of venues that suit the personal needs of each couple and their wedding guests.

Italy has countless tourist attractions and there is no way to experience everything the country has to offer in one trip. So you have to think about the most important places you want to see and the kinds of activities you and your guests most enjoy. There are museums, national parks, mountain climbing and beaches, biking tours and famous historical sites.

Here are some ideas of activities for your Italian destination wedding that encompass many mentioned above…

A TRIP TO ROME

A trip to Rome may include the Coliseum, the famous Roman amphitheater that sat 50,000 spectators for the gladiator matches of old. Florence is a beautiful city of so many facets but you can’t miss one of the most famous art galleries in the world, the Uffizi gallery showcasing the works of Italian greats such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Caravaggio which are all displayed in one of the prettiest buildings in Italy, the Palazzo degli Uffizi.

THE CITY OF VENICE

The city of Venice is famous for its gondola rides that add a romantic touch to your touring. Especially when the Gondoliers serenade you as they row along the Grand Canal.

FAMOUS CITY OF POMPEII

Visit the famous city of Pompeii that was frozen in time after the tragic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD covered it in ash. You can see the preserved baths, houses and ancient forums all filled with the relics of the people who lived there at the time of the eruption.

EXPLORE ITALY BY BOAT

For beautiful Mediterranean water tours, explore Italy by boat with a ride on Lake Como–home to some of the richest celebrities in the world. Surrounded by Alpine forests and traditional villages you will feel like you are in the middle of a classic Italian painting. Consider a boat trip along the Amalfi coast distinguished by Italy’s most scenic spots. Or sale through the Blue Grotto, a 14 meter cavern that glows an illuminescent blue when the sign shines on it for a once in a lifetime experience.

BREATHTAKING VIEWS

You can also climb the actual mountain that did the erupting, Mt. Vesuvius. The views are breathtaking and there is a crater inside that is reminiscent of space. If mountain climbing is your thing, there is also Mt. Stromboli that is a still active volcano.

Of course there are countless religious sites such as the Vatican Palace as well as the Sistine Chapel and St. Mark’s Basilica and two of the most important religious sites, Piazza San Pietro and St Peter’s Basilica. There is also a huge fascinating archeological complex near Sicily called the Valley of the Temples. This site is home to some of the most intact Doric temples built in the 5th century. As you walk through you will also have an amazing view of the town below.

CHURCHES & ART WORK

There are just too many famous churches to mention all of them, so if churches are your thing you may want to do some more in-depth research.

Foodies can’t miss pizza in Naples and to follow the Chianti wine route. And art aficionados won’t want to miss the famous Last Supper painting by Leonardo de Vinci in Milan on display at the Santa Maria delle Grazie, the mural depicts Christ and the apostles at the last supper before Christ’s crucifixion.
